Track Cycling


Track Cycling is a bicycle racing sport that is usually held on built banked tracks or Velodromes using bicycles, but many events are held at older Velodromes where the track banking is relatively shallow. 
Track Cycling is also done on grass tracks marked on flat sports fields. These events are held during the summer in Scotland, there are also regular summer events in England.
Track Cycling is around since 1870, when cycling was in its infancy. Wooden indoor tracks were used which resembled with modern velodromes that consisted of two straight and banked turns.
Early Track Cycling raced attracted crowd of 2000 people. The main early centers of Track Cycling race in Britain were London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool.
The most noticeable changes in over a century of Track Cycling have been concerned with the bikes, engineered to be lighter and more and aerodynamic to enable ever faster times.
